Beatriz Romano, 21 years old, is originally from Coimbra. She grew up in the outskirts of the city but often visited her family’s village near the Mata do Bussaco, where she maintained a close connection with nature and rural life. Her severe hearing loss was discovered when she was six years old, leaving her with only minimal hearing capacity. Even before this discovery, music was already part of her life—through vibration rather than sound.
During speech therapy, she was introduced to music, with the first song being Atirei o Pau no Gato. That moment marked the beginning of her learning to sing, sparking her curiosity and leading her to explore the world of music using hearing aids, trying to both sing and listen. Beatriz is a fan of the band BTS. Carnival has always been her favorite time of year, as she loved to feel and hear the beats, which brought her joy and continue to be part of her life today—whether through feeling or hearing.
In 2023, Beatriz takes part in the Sub_Bar Academy, where she learns sound synthesis and sequencing. She presents her debut performance at Teatro Bocage (Lisbon, PT), followed by appearances at Prisma (Lisbon, PT), Zigur Fest (Lamego, PT), and the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art (Porto, PT).
