[listening]
“[listening] is the performance of unnamed materiality that generates the world in its own truth, whose openness accesses plurality, ethics, thought, and consciousness as efforts of participation rather than as givens.”

_a shared space, again
Born before language, music gathered communities for thousand of years through the immersive quality of sound and the power of rhythm. Artists have given voice to their feelings and ideas, fostering culture, diversity, and creating beauty for the ears in the most amazing forms, from ritualistic music to classic compositions or repetitive electronic beats.
Nearly 70 years ago, the subwoofer entered the scene, allowing massive airwaves to resonate throughout our entire bodies, forever shaping the music world and introducing a physical sensation to art and entertainment. However, despite this development, music has primarily remained a paradigm for the sense of hearing, stimulating a language made of sound memories, embellished by a physical, haptic sensation.
So when we asked d/Deaf and hearing artists to compose music for the sense of touch, they opened the door to a new dimension, a new language, and a whole new set of sensations, something we have been briefly touching for the last decades and that set the basis for
a new, ephemeral, immersive ritual for the community. Because this is what Sub_Bar is:
_ a shared space, again.
